HCS PRESENTS: WILDCAT KATIE BROWN – APRIL 4TH, 2025 Annie Oakley, move over! Wildcat Katie Brown is here, nicknamed for her temper as well as her oil ventures. When Wildcat’s luckless Pa loses all their property to shyster lawyer Thomas T. Tremaine in a crooked card game, Katie must fight for their land. But to make matters worse, her boyfriend, Big Bob Kelly, stalwart hero and solid oil driller, is being vamped by Tremaine’s sleazy partner in crime, Sashay del Rio, hostess of the local saloon. Goldslinger Gulch is home sweet home to a population of corny cowboys, silly saloon girls, a grizzled female prospector, and a pair of loony gossips. We hope you’re able to join us on Friday, April 4th, at 7:00 p.m. in the MS-HS auditorium for this all-school play performance! Admission is free, but donations are always welcome and appreciated!

STUDENTS & STAFF WEAR ORANGE TO SUPPORT ADVOCACY Hancock Central School’s sixth-grade ELA class recently completed their reading of Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. The book follows Melody Brooks, a brilliant 11-year-old with cerebral palsy who cannot speak, walk, or write. Despite being underestimated, she proves her intelligence with the help of a communication device, highlighting themes of perseverance and inclusion. To culminate this literacy study, students took a meaningful field trip to the Arc of Delaware County, where they engaged in real-life interactions and developed a deeper appreciation for individuals with disabilities in their communities. During their visit, HCS sixth graders proudly wore orange in support of advocacy day, showing solidarity with the Arc and other programs across New York State that support individuals with diverse needs. Excellent work by all of you, well done!

🌍5th Graders Shine with Stellar Planet Projects! 🌍 Our 5th-grade students at HCS recently showcased their amazing creativity and research skills with their solar system projects! They crafted clay models of the Sun and planets while creating detailed information boards packed with facts about each planet, including: -Temperature & climate -Diameter & size -How the planet got its name -Length of orbit & distance from the Sun -Interesting facts These projects were truly out of this world! Fantastic job, 5th graders—your hard work and dedication truly shine bright!

MARCH IS ARTS IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH! Ms. Kellam’s art students at Hancock Central School have been busy creating beautiful and inspiring artwork, filling our hallways with color and creativity! Our 6th graders have explored the abstract world of Joan Miró, creating vibrant, playful pieces inspired by his unique shapes and colors. Meanwhile, our 7th graders have drawn inspiration from Charles Demuth, crafting stunning expressionist-style artwork that highlights bold lines and architectural elements. Let’s celebrate the talent and dedication of our young artists!

CHEMISTRY MEETS CREATIVITY! Deposit and Hancock chemistry students took a trip to The Corning Museum of Glass the other day, exploring the science and artistry behind glass making! Students toured the museum’s incredible galleries, watched a mesmerizing glassblowing demonstration, and even got hands-on in the sandblasting studio, where they created their own unique glass souvenirs! What a fantastic way to connect science and art in a real-world experience! Thank you to Jenn Vanluvender for sending over some pictures to us!

CELEBRATING ARTS IN OUR SCHOOLS! A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by today’s Morning Program to watch our 5th Grade Beginning Chorus perform for our elementary students! Chloe Reynolds, Emerson Rinn, and Sam Brigham took the stage, delighting our young Wildcats with performances of The HCS Alma Mater, Raining Tacos, and Hakuna Matata. March is Arts in Our Schools Month, and we’re so proud to showcase the talent and creativity of our students!

HAPPY NATIONAL SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK WEEK! This week, we celebrate National School Social Work Week and give a huge THANK YOU to Megan Phoenix for everything she does for us here at HCS! Ms. Phoenix’s dedication, support, and care make a difference in the lives of our students every day. From offering guidance to lending a helping hand, she plays a vital role in our school community. CELEBRATING WOMEN’S ATHLETICS LUNCHEON Thank you to Danica Reis for sending in pictures of some of our D-H student-athletes at the CWAL! The CWAL is an annual event that recognizes the achievements of Binghamton University's student-athletes and raises funds to help provide scholarships for Binghamton University's Women's Athletic programs. This year, 2021 BU alum and recent Olympian, Emily Mackay, was the featured speaker. This was a great opportunity for this group of young ladies to hear from professional as well as collegiate athletes about perseverance, motivation, positive attitudes, and success. The students were also able to take a tour of the campus beforehand!

Athletic Teams Stop by Morning Program! A big thank you to Mr. Gleim and the Hancock Bowling Team for attending last week’s Elementary Morning Program! Mr. Gleim brought a few bowling balls and pins, giving our young Wildcats a hands-on look at how the game is played and explaining the basics of bowling. We also want to thank Mr. Bedient and the Wrestling Team for stopping by! Mr. Bedient talked about the rules and moves of wrestling, while our wrestlers demonstrated how a match would take place. It was a great opportunity for our students to learn more about the sport! We appreciate both teams for taking the time to inspire our young Wildcats!
