Spotlight on Ray Rynearson: Voice of the Deposit-Hancock Football Games
Hancock Central School District is excited to spotlight our talented play-by-play announcer, Ray Rynearson, who has been captivating audiences this season with his dynamic and engaging commentary for Deposit-Hancock football games.
Ray is no stranger to the Deposit-Hancock community. He is a 2019 graduate of Deposit Central School and was a proud member of the first merged Deposit-Hancock baseball team in 2016, Football was the first merged program, in 2010. Ray was also a member of the 2017-2018 D-H Baseball team, which won the New York State Class D State Championship. His deep understanding of our teams, history, and school spirit makes him the perfect voice to bring our games to life.
Academic and Professional Background:
After graduating from Deposit Central, Ray went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in journalism, with a concentration on Sports Journalism, from Marshall University, where he honed his broadcasting skills. While at Marshall, in 2023-2024, Ray was the announcer for Division 1 Marshall University baseball games, showcasing his talent and passion for sports commentary at the collegiate level. Ray has the honor of calling the very first baseball game at Marshall University, as they did not have their own baseball field until the 2023-2024 season.
Back to His Roots:
Now, Ray is back in his hometown, bringing his professional experience and enthusiasm to the Deposit-Hancock football games. His dedication to the community and love for the sport are evident in every game he calls.
Advice to Students Entering College:
“Embrace new experiences and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. College is the perfect time to explore your interests and find your passion. Take the opportunity when it presents itself and most importantly, believe in yourself.”
Advice to Students looking to pursue commentary/announcing:
“Be ready to work, you’re walking out the door when everyone else is walking in the door.”
Hobbies and Interests:
Outside of broadcasting, Ray enjoys swimming, running and attending sporting events. He also enjoys podcasting and playing video games when he finds some spare time.
Ray’s journey from student-athlete to becoming the voice of the team is a testament to his hard work and dedication. We are thrilled to have him as part of the Deposit-Hancock athletics family and look forward to hearing him call our games for years to come!
