Hancock Central School District is proud to shine a spotlight on our talented and dedicated bowling coach, Bill Gleim, who has been making an impact in the lives of students and athletes for many years.

Coach Gleim has been coaching boys and girls bowling at Hancock Central School for 17 years, helping to develop the skills and sportsmanship of countless student-athletes. His dedication to the sport is evident in the strong relationships he has built and the success his teams have achieved.

Accolades and Proud Achievements:

  • Coach Gleim has led several teams to multiple league championships and Sectional titles over the years.

  • Regional Champions in 2020 and 2022

  • Qualified for State Championships several times.

  • Sent individuals as members of the Section IV NYS All Star Team

  • Numerous bowlers have won individual honors, such as scoring titles, high games and high series.

  • Having his daughter, Brenna, earn a Division I scholarship for bowling while being her coach.

  • Proud that he graduated from HCS over 40 years ago and there is still a flourishing HCS Wildcats bowling program.

Fox Bowling Center:

Bill has also owned and operated the Fox Bowling Center for 28 years, where he continues to share his love of the sport with the community. His role at the center has allowed him to foster the growth of bowling in Hancock and mentor aspiring bowlers of all ages.

Coaching Impact:

Over his career, Coach Gleim has coached hundreds of students, introducing them to the sport and watching many of them grow into talented and passionate bowlers.

What He Enjoys Most About Coaching:

“What I enjoy most about coaching is seeing the development of young athletes, not only in their skills but also in their character. Watching a student develop their skills and achieve a level of expertise that exceeds their own expectations is rewarding,” said Gleim. “But, watching them scream out the windows of a bus with a Fire department escort after a sectional win, that’s awesome!”

Advice to Student-Athletes:

“Work hard, stay focused, and always be willing to learn. Bowling, like life, is about consistency and perseverance. The skills you develop in sports will benefit you beyond the game.”

Advice to Fellow Coaches:

“Accept each kid for who and what they are. Create an environment where every athlete feels valued and supported. If you do it right and earn some mutual respect, both the athlete and coach can accomplish a lot.”

Hobbies Outside of Bowling:

When he’s not at the bowling alley, Coach Gleim enjoys spending time on the golf course. He also enjoys “cracking rocks” in Herkimer, NY, and reading a good book on a beach when he gets the opportunity to do so!

We are fortunate to have a coach like Bill Gleim at Hancock Central School, where his influence and dedication extend far beyond the lanes. Thank you, Coach Gleim, for your unwavering commitment to our students and community!
