HCS Summer Maintenance Staff

Our HCS Summer Spotlight highlights our students assisting our maintenance staff this summer!

We are halfway through the summer season and the maintenance staff at Hancock Central have been working very hard getting things ready for the upcoming school year.  HCS was very fortunate to have a working agreement with the Delaware County CDO Workforce and their Summer Youth Employment program to bring in some student help to assist our staff.  While being employed through the CDO workforce, the students work their hours at school.

This year, the Summer Youth Employment program runs from July 8th to August 9th. Students must be a year-round resident of Delaware County, NY to be eligible.

While speaking with our student-workers, they had similar things to say about working at HCS in the summer.  Job responsibilities have included painting, rearranging of desks/furniture/classrooms, and a lot of cleaning! The students have learned how to use different tools and machines while cleaning up the school. Having this job has taught the students the necessity to be on time, work hard and cooperate with your co-workers.

It has been a hot and humid summer; our staff have put in a lot of sweat and hard work to assist in getting our school ready for the upcoming school year. Thank you to the Delaware County CDO Workforce for this opportunity, as well as our maintenance staff and student-workers for what you do!!
