Congratulations to our D-H Lady Eagles on their 8-2 victory over Friendship-Scio in the NYSPHSAA Class D Softball semifinals!
Down 1-0, Deposit-Hancock had a huge 5th inning to take a 6-1 lead. Nora Bartholomew lead off the inning with a base-hit to right field. Haley Begeal then cracked a double, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Abby Russell was safe on an infield bunt to load the bases, with Olivia Johnston bringing in Bartholomew on a single. Sarah Gross then smashed a double to the left field wall, bringing in 3 more! Gross would score on a groundball by Addison Makowski, with Leah Wist (pinch running for Makowski) scoring on Amanda Ray’s ground ball.
D-H would score 2 more runs in the 7th, with Kadyn Appley and Amanda Ray scoring on Bartholomew’s grounder. On the hill, Addison Makowski had 13 strikeouts in 6 innings of work, with her and Aubrey Smith combining to throw a one hitter.
Deposit-Hancock will take on Salem (Section II) tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. The game will be live-streamed on the NFHS network at https://www.nfhsnetwork.com (subscription is necessary to view games).
