Hancock, NY – The Hancock Community Education Foundation (HCEF) has been a pillar of educational support in the Hancock community for over two decades. Founded in 1999 by Ron DeLuca, Wellington Lester, and George Elwood, HCEF remains dedicated to enhancing opportunities for students and families from birth through post-graduation.
A Commitment to Education and Community
HCEF’s mission is to support educational development at every stage, empowering Hancock students to become successful and contributing community members.
Key Programs and Initiatives
HCEF provides a variety of programs designed to foster learning, engagement, and academic success:
Children’s Center (Birth to Age 3): Early learning activities such as sensory play, storytelling, music, movement, and art projects support cognitive and physical development.
Preschool Program: A four-day-a-week program preparing children for formal education through motor skill development and cognitive learning.
After-School Programs: Providing a safe and supportive environment where students receive academic assistance and engage in extracurricular activities.
Family Learning Center: A space where parents and students can learn together through programs focused on local history, literacy, nutrition, and more.
Summer Enrichment Program: A four-week initiative designed to prevent summer learning loss with activities and weekly curriculum-based trips.
Scholarship Programs: HCEF provides need-based grants to graduating seniors and alumni, easing financial barriers to higher education.
A Lasting Impact
HCEF has invested more than $2 million in the Hancock community, with over $1.3 million allocated to scholarship grants. These contributions have significantly improved access to education and opportunities for local students.
Leadership and Gratitude
Since 2005, Executive Director Linda K. O’Brien and a dedicated Board of Directors have worked tirelessly to expand HCEF’s impact.
