Kindergarten and Pre-K
Kindergarten registration and orientation takes place in April/May for the kindergarten classes beginning in September. Parents of youngsters whose names are on file in the census office and who will be five years old by December 1 will receive letters informing them of registration dates. The local newspaper also publishes kindergarten registration schedules in advance. At registration, parent are asked to furnish a birth certificate, or other formal proof of age, social security number, and proof of immunizations. The following immunizations are required in order to begin kindergarten:
3 doses - Polio/IPV
3 doses - DPT
2 doses - MMR
3 doses HEP B
1 dose - Varicella or proof of chickenpox.
Prekindergarten registrations takes place in May and a child must be four yeas of age by December 1. All children who appear on the census will receive an enrollment/recruitment form in the mail. Eligible families then will be contacted to come in and register their child. At registration, parents are asked to bring in a birth certificate, or other proof of immunizations. The following immunizations are required in order to attend prekindergarten:
3 doses - Polio/IPV 3 doses - DPT
1 dose - MMR
1 dose - HIB (after 15 months)
3 doses - HIB (before 15 months)
3 doses HEP B
1 dose - Varicella or proof of chickenpox.
